The purpose of this study is to verify whether forms of combination of female employment rates and the other employment, welfare and family variables are causal conditions of child poverty rates. Employment-related variables include female employment rates, unemployment rates, market income inequality. Welfare-related variables include welfare benefit levels, and family-related variables include proportion of single parent households. Using OECD Stats and the OECD Family database, fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis was carried. The main results of this study are as follows: First, the combination of high market income inequality and low welfare benefit levels, through combinations of low female employment rates, has been a causal conditions to explain the high child poverty rates. Second, high female employment rates, through combinations of high welfare benefit levels or low market income inequality, has been a causal conditions to explain the low child poverty rates. These results suggest that increasing the female employment rates, narrowing market income inequality, and expanding welfare benefit levels are necessary for child poverty alleviation.
